Villa Astor is an exceptional estate with a long, illustrious history, now beautifully showcased following a top-to-bottom refurbishment by its dedicated new owners and their team of designers from across Europe. The villa’s remarkable position, perched high on a bluff directly above the Amalfi Coast, is unmatched in drama, offering an extraordinary view stretching across Naples, Mount Vesuvius, and Pozzuoli, all set against the ever-changing colours of sea and sky.
Arriving at the villa through the atmospheric streets of old Sorrento, guests are welcomed by an oasis of fragrant gardens, in extravagant bloom between May and September and home to over 1,000 species of plants, including rare and exotic flowers. These gardens are perfect for leisurely strolls or quiet contemplation, surrounded by fragments from ancient sarcophagi dating back thousands of years, priceless statues, urns, and elaborate fountains. The marble-finished pool remains bathed in sunlight from morning through to late afternoon, while stone staircases lead down to an oceanfront grotto, offering a further cooling swim.
The interiors of the villa are equally impressive. Numerous elegant salons and sun-dappled terraces invite relaxation throughout, while six fully updated suites each feature a full range of modern amenities, marble-finished bathrooms, soaring high ceilings, and stunning views. The villa accommodates up to 20 guests across ten en-suite bedrooms. For bookings of more than 12 guests, additional accommodation is available in La Torre, an independent structure within the grounds offering four further en-suite rooms. Beyond the villa’s ample indoor dining spaces, alfresco dining options include the botanical gardens beneath a wisteria-shaded pergola, the ocean terrace, or the garden terrace, complete with barbecue and traditional pizza oven.
While the setting of Villa Astor is one guests may find hard to leave, its location also offers irresistible access to explore historic Sorrento. Guests can enjoy a morning coffee while strolling among the well-dressed locals, or discover the classic port of Marina Grande, home to authentic trattorias serving fresh fish and homemade pasta from bungalows perched on stilts over the water. Boat trips can also be arranged directly from the villa’s own jetty, with Capri, Ischia, and Positano all within easy reach for a memorable day trip (boat charter not included in the rental).
