Browsing the Sunday morning antique markets is one of the true highlights of any visit to Provence. As the epicentre of France’s antiques trade, these markets offer an Aladdin’s cave of treasures and collectibles for traders and enthusiastic amateurs alike. Set within easy reach of the action, Mas de la Motte is a magnificent country house spread across 65 acres of grounds, with spacious, stylish interiors showcasing more than a few pieces sourced from the local markets themselves.
With origins dating back to the 18th century, the property has been renovated and furnished to an exceptional standard. Comfortably accommodating up to 16 guests, and supported by a full staff including concierge, housekeepers, wait staff, and chef, the luxurious Mas feels every bit an exclusive private estate, while offering the discreet, impeccable service of a first-class hotel.
Accommodation is spread between the main house, offering seven bedrooms, and an adjacent guest house with a further two bedrooms. Formal grounds surround the property, with neat lawns edged by clipped box hedging, and rose-laden arches leading through to dining terraces and a 16m x 6m gated pool. A floodlit tennis court, pétanque court, and gym equipment are also available on-site.
The ground floor of the main house houses spacious living areas, a formal dining room, and breakfast and family rooms, including a fabulous orangery offering dining for up to 22 guests.
The first floor is home to seven bedrooms, five with en-suite bathrooms and two sharing a Jack-and-Jill bathroom, each offering views over the gardens, pool, and surrounding countryside. The separate guest house features an en-suite bedroom on the ground floor, along with a south-facing terrace, while a first-floor bedroom includes its own en-suite bathroom and views over the olive orchard towards the tennis court.
Throughout, bedrooms are attractively decorated in classic Provençal florals, offering a compelling invitation to throw open the shutters and welcome in the sunlight and fragrant scents of the South of France.
