Description
Modern etiquette can trace its roots back to Castello San Lorenzo. During the Italian Renaissance, the definitive rulebook on personal conduct, Galateo, was compiled by Giovanni della Casa and disseminated across the courts of Europe. Born at the castle in 1503, della Casa was perfectly placed to observe the codes and customs of Florentine high society, as the son of Lisabetta Tornabuoni and cousin to the great Lorenzo the Magnificent.
Just 16 miles from Florence, the 200-hectare Castello San Lorenzo estate sits at the heart of the Mugello, a scenic region of Tuscany celebrated as the birthplace of Renaissance luminaries Giotto and Beato Angelico, as well as the ancestral seat of the powerful Medici family. Today, the surrounding area is dotted with pretty hamlets and villages, several within just a few miles of the estate, along with world-class golf courses and the Mugello racing circuit, where Italian sports car driving experiences can be booked.
The castle itself features a small spa and gym, a saltwater swimming pool, a chapel, a billiards room, lovely private grounds, and spacious bedroom suites. Daily housekeeping is included, with a private chef available to book for bespoke dining experiences on request.
Within walking distance of the castle, the family also owns a small hotel featuring a restaurant and tennis court, both available for use by guests staying at Castello San Lorenzo.
