Backstage Loft

Backstage Loft is the creative vision of acclaimed Swiss artist, architect, and designer Heinz Julen — a bold, contemporary luxury chalet in Zermatt offering incredible Matterhorn views, striking architectural design, and an excellent range of spa facilities. The chalet sleeps up to 10 guests across five en-suite bedrooms.

Backstage Loft offers a truly unique experience, blending the authentic wooden architecture of a traditional Valais barn with the sleek, modern style of the main chalet. Every fixture, fitting, and piece of furniture has been custom-designed by Heinz Julen at his Zermatt studio, complemented by contemporary artwork sourced from the local creative scene — the level of detail throughout is remarkable. At the heart of the property lies a bright, open-plan living space, where the lounge, dining, and kitchen areas are framed by floor-to-ceiling windows that emphasise the chalet’s distinctive loft-style design. A mix of contemporary and classic furnishings, along with a cosy wood-burning fireplace, adds further warmth and character.

After a day on the Zermatt slopes, guests can unwind with a glass of champagne in the indoor hot tub, enclosed by glass walls offering a spectacular backdrop of the Matterhorn. For an even more immersive experience, the glass wall can be opened to transform the space into an outdoor hot tub. On the floor below, further relaxation awaits in the form of a sauna and Hammam, along with a fitness area equipped with cardio machines and free weights.

Guests can also enjoy the latest films in Backstage Loft’s stylish TV room, fitted with a full home cinema system.

The chalet’s five double bedrooms sleep up to 10 guests. Three bedrooms are accessed directly from the central living space and reflect the same distinctive design found throughout the chalet, while two further bedrooms are located in the adjoining 700-year-old converted barn, enclosed in glass yet showcasing many original historic features. Every bedroom includes its own en-suite shower room, with several offering direct access to a balcony or terrace.

The chalet features an internal lift, along with a dedicated ski room fitted with boot warmers.

Guests also have access to the spa at the nearby Backstage Hotel in the centre of Zermatt. Themed around the Book of Genesis, this wellness area offers a range of therapeutic treatments across steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, and relaxation spaces, taking guests on a symbolic journey through the seven days of creation.

Rates are based on exclusive use of the chalet for up to 10 guests and include full gourmet catering, a complimentary drinks bar, daily housekeeping, in-resort electro-taxi service on arrival and departure, and access to the Backstage Hotel Spa.

The chalet is also available on a bed-and-breakfast basis, including daily breakfast, housekeeping, electro-taxi service, and spa access — or on a self-catered basis with daily housekeeping, electro-taxi service, and spa access included.
